Newhaven Port: a milestone moment as the Octopus platform departs
Date published: April 23, 2026
Last weekend marked a significant step forward at Newhaven Harbour as the Octopus departed following the completion of its final works on the Fishing Stages.
This impressive jack-up barge — equipped with a 150-tonne crawler crane — has played a vital role in the project. Using four 38m spud poles to anchor itself firmly to the seabed, it provided a stable platform to safely remove old structures and support the early phases of construction.
What’s next?
The final fit-out of the new pontoons is set to begin in early summer.
Once complete, local fishermen will have full access to the upgraded fishing stages — delivering improved facilities for years to come.
A major milestone achieved, and an exciting phase ahead for Newhaven Port.
