Pilot boat in action when traffic gridlocked

When the roads gridlocked, the pilot boat delivered

Last week proved once again that when everything on land grinds to a halt, British Ports keep us moving.

With every road in the area completely gridlocked, it looked almost certain that we’d miss the launch of the Southwick Artificial Reef. Traffic was at a standstill, diversions were jammed, and the clock was ticking. But thanks to some quick thinking, and the invaluable support of our Pilot Boat team, we made it to Shoreham Port on time and in style.

Our Coxswains stepped up without hesitation, navigating us swiftly and safely on our Pilot Boat the Seaxe, while the rest of the region sat bumper‑to‑bumper. What could have been a day of delays and apologies turned into a great reminder of the flexibility, skill, and professionalism that our marine team brings every single day.

A huge thank you to the Coxswains for getting us where we needed to be. When the roads fail, the Newhaven Port team succeeds.
